About the Bodø BEAT Academy

Bodø BEAT invites aspiring young percussionists, professionals and music lovers into this brand new Academy. In today's musical life, with a huge variety of concerts and other musical events, the percussionist faces unique professional difficulties compared with previous eras. First and foremost: it is no longer enough to simply be a good percussionist. The profession of freelancer, which is quickly establishing itself and is increasingly chosen by musicians, requires the polyfunctionality of a performer, which is becoming the main challenge today and in the near future.

Within the Academy, Bodø BEAT aims to create a safe space in which we all can complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses to create and learn new techniques, share musical ideas, and delve into different areas of the creative process. We are very proud to present this year's academy faculty who will help to provide complementary skills and ideas, and will improve musicianship and musical knowledge. Bodø BEAT Academy values inclusion and equality and it is meant as a musical and cultural exchange, in a low key and open environment.

The Scholarship Audition

The Bodø BEAT International Percussion Festival will invite a total of 5 active participants to the Bodø BEAT Academy. Each selected participant will receive individual sessions with all faculty-members, chamber music lessons, workshops and discussions, invitation to participate in our European Cabins of Culture performance and exposure in our closing concert. In addition, selected participants will receive a grant of 500 € for travel and accommodation.

Audition requirements

Anyone of a minimum age of 18, is invited to apply. Create a short personal video in English or Norwegian, in which you tell about yourself, your musical path to date, your aspirations, what you hope to get from the Bodø BEAT Academy, and anything else that could be relevant for the application.

Please also include a representative video-portfolio that includes orchestral timpani, snare drum, marimba and/or vibraphone and/or multi percussion. The duration of this part of the video should be no longer than 10 minutes. We encourage you to emphasise your specialities, but make sure to include all the mentioned instruments in your video. There are no specific requirements regarding the quality of the video and you can feel free to combine different recordings.

Please send your personal video and representative portfolio in a YouTube-link to bodobeatfestival@gmail.com, no later than March 15th, 2024.
